What to check before you buy

• The comfort temperature rating, not only the extreme rating, and the standard it was measured to.
• Down or synthetic fill, and what the manufacturer says about damp conditions and washing.
• The R-value, thickness and packed size of the pad or mat.
• Length and shape (mummy or rectangular) for your height, and whether two bags zip together.
